Hello everyone!

We tried out a new concept where we mainly let our community assist each other with product/feature questions in the Xperia XZ Premium board and it was a success! So, let's keep it rolling. 

The purpose of this thread is to ask anything that you wish to know about the Xperia XZ1 Compact; other users owning an Xperia XZ1 Compact and forum staff will do our best to reply! 

As an example, prior to purchasing an Xperia XZ1 Compact, you may be wondering if someone has tried out a specific third party app or feature on their XZ1 Compact, and could tell you a bit more about the compatibility and functionality as the app may important in your daily life. Staff and other users can come in and reply and let you know how it works!

The goal of this thread is to help each other out as a community. We will try to moderate this thread so that any new threads with a fitting question will instead be moved here, while we of course keep support threads the way they are now.

All that has been done by sony-mobile for all these long years, it is only constantly losing to its competitors in the camera. We sure that new XZ2 will be the same "good" tradition

Hi,

The only apps that seems to work with the SD Card in the XZ1 Compact are Sony's own. All other apps with support for SD Cards simply do not work with the SD Card. On build number 47.1.A.12.34 external apps do not even find the card at all. This probably means that Sony (or Android Oreo) uses different means (APIs) to access the SD card than in other phones, which is very strange. My SD Card is encrypted and works very well with the Sony Apps, but not with any others.

The app developers I have contacted are very service minded and probably could be convinced to adapt to the "Xperia way" of using SD cards, but I need some pointers on how to do it to send to them. I can install a development environment and experiment myself but that is a bit expensive compared with my time and economically it makes more sense to buy another phone and return the Sony as defective.

I have tried at least the following apps with support for storage on SD Cards:

• Spotify (Music)
• Prime Video (Video on Demand from Amazon)
• Podcast Addict (Podcasts)
• SmugMug (Photo albums)
• ACM Queue (Magazine)

It is inconcievable that all these are broken on all phones, some of the apps are very well known and widely used. All apps in question have the "Storage" app permission. The reason must be that the XZ1 solution is non-standard in some way. All the Sony apps work just fine without any error.

I have tried a couple of file explorers. They work as advertized and can write to the SD Card so they for some reason use another way of doing so. "File Manager+" and "ES File Explorer/Manager" both seems to work as they intend to.

Like others, I'm experiencing the wi-fi issues. It's kinda big deal for me as I have auto download for podcasts set up and it fails quite often.

What have Sony said about it? When was the last time they adressed the problem?

Podcast Addict does have access to the SD card on my phone -  for storage of podcasts, that is. The app itself is installed on the phone's internal memory.

2 problems:

Even if I turn Location OFF from the settings, the home screen continues to display the Location icon permanently.

My oersonal headphones (that previously worked fine) behave wierdly. When I press the in-line Pause button, the audio starts playing out of the phone speakers instead. So if I want to pause anything while using headphones, I have to do it from the device itself, can't do it through the headphones.

Я купил Sony xperia zx1 compact и остался не доволен нет съёмки с экрана, убрали дополнительное приложение с камеры, 3d модели делает плохо, 900 тоже снимает плохо. Я думаю продать его и ходить со старым sony xperia z5 compact. 😥

I bought a Sony xperia zx1 compact and was not pleased with no shooting from the screen, removed the additional application from the camera, 3d model does poorly, 900 also removes badly. I'm thinking of selling it and going with the old sony xperia z5 compact. 😥
