Small apps

Going from the Z3 to the XZ1 I have noticed that the small apps can not anylonger be brought forth with the square symbol to the bottom right. I used them all the time especially the calculator and currency converter. Are they gone? If so - Why? And can they be re-installed?

Yes, they have been removed since the introduction of the X-series if I remember well. Why? No idea to be honest, but lately, Sony is giving up on software components that used the least and may cause system clutter with the regular security updates.

Alternatives might be found on the Google Play store, might not be "small apps" after all. But try to find apps that offer functional widgets.
