Xperia XZ1 got Android9 => Navigation bar?

Hello,

Yestersday I got Android 9 on my mobile and the thing that I recognised first was the navigation bar on bottom now is always ON (except for Album and Quickpic, where the navigation bar disappears when playing a movie. The navigation bar only appears when the screen is touched).

How can I set this mode - hide the navigation bar - on all apps like in album/quickpic that the navigation bar disappears and makes space again for content on the screen ?

I checked the web, found a page about Galaxy S9, but the menu described there doesn't exist on my XZ1.

Cheers,

Peter

EDIT: A demo picture I found in a different forum, see the crap on the right side for a rotated display. For me it is absolutely annoying in a browser...

Same here.

And i expected:
One of the biggest changes facing you immediately in Android 9.0 Pie is the new system navigation. The traditional Android navigation buttons have been replaced with a small pill-shaped icon at the bottom of the screen.

Come on Sony. Loads of complaints about this. Let us have what we had before, ie a smart navigation bar. This update is a downgrade. At least you could have given us gestures if you were going to foist this bad design on us.

VERY annoyed use who will seriously consider not getting a Sony phone when the contract expires soon

You are wrong...on the XZ1 with pie it has not been changed to the"pill".
I have Pie on my XZ1 and navigation buttons have not been changed.

Always visible navigation bar is VERY bad feature in the last update to Android 9. Please fix it and give us auto hideable navbar.

On XZ1 Compact bar is also visible all the time on Chrome, Line and some apps is white, discord and few lucky one black, but my small screen just got even smaller. Very unhappy with this downgrade. What was wrong with a smart hidden bar in android 8?

Agree with the above comments, navigation bar on Pie for my XZ1 Compact is a terrible design choice. It interferes with so many apps and reduces my already compact screen. I took a screenshot last night to send to my friend and of course the navigation bar now cuts off part of the screenshot. This should be an easy fix but I guess it was lazy programming in the first place that caused the issue. Sony very rarely listen to their customers so don't hold your breath on a fix.

I'm with Peter, this needs sorting!

I took delivery of my brand new Xperia X10 with great sound and a 21:9 screen, ideal for watching movies and video, only it isn't.  If you take in to consideration the 1cm Nav bar that doesn't disappear, it makes the videos I watch look bad, a dark movie with a great white line down the side is a bit distracting and I'm losing more screen, so why bother giving me 21:9?

The pre loaded demo video looks lovely without the nav-bar, that's how I want all my media to look like on this phone.  I Googled extensively to find ways of going back to a hiding the Nav-Bar but apparently this is not an option on SONY phones..  This nav bar is shocking, give US the option if we want it or not because its just ruined the whole reason I bought your 2019 Xperia X10.

It's time for the next update to give the hiding Nav-Bar back to the settings menu.

Otherwise I guess I'm trading in and going all Samsung which would be a shame considering how badly the Sony mobile market is doing anyway.

It's really been a long time now for this "fix".

It' just that, we all know how the experience is without this navigation bar staying in place, covering our screens. The pain would have been way less if we didn't know....
Is this a lesson in "ignorance is bliss"??

All kidding aside, C'MON SONY!!!!!!!
