Xperia XZ2 not charging, data connection works

Hi,

since a few weeks i had the problem that my XZ2 would sometimes not start charging when i connected it. But if i connected it 2 to 3 times it would work.

Yesterday it was even harder to charge the phone and today after i charged it to 75% it just stopped charging. Any further try to charge it again did not work:

- If the phone is on sometimes the charging symbol shows up shortly & disappears directly again or does not show up at all.

- If the phone is off sometimes the charging light start, but as soon as the battery symbol appears the charging light goes off & the screen becomes black. Sometimes even the charging light does not appear.

- Data connection with the laptop works just fine, but no signal of charging.

- After resetting the phone charging still does not work.

My guess at the moment is that the USB connector is partly defect or that the battery is defect. Any ideas on this? Is it the USB connector or the battery? Should i make another analyse?

Best Regards

Hi Frighter,

First, thank you for the detailed explanation.

Regarding the issue, both possibilities are equal, but you can try few things to attempt resolving the issue first:

-Try a different cable, preferably an original Sony.

-Make sure that the charger port is free from lint, dust and moisture. A blocked port can prevent the USB connector from fitting properly, and therefore prevent charging. Ensure that the USB port is completely dry, and gently remove any lint or dust using, for example, a wooden or plastic toothpick or a toothbrush.

-This link has more steps to try: https://cutt.ly/dwBlU4Tc

-Don't miss this step, it sometimes works wonders: https://cutt.ly/fwBlOTJw

I also have some follow-up questions, does it give you the option to charge or transfer files when you connect it to your computer?

If you wiggled the cable, does it pick up?

If yes, these are signs of a damaged port/charger.

If all failed, your phone might need to be sent for inspection/repair.

You can book it for repair in the UK from this link: https://sony.sbe-ltd.co.uk/callcenter/booking
This is for IE: https://www.fonfix.com/

No need to mention that probably your phone is out of warranty.

Let me know if you still need anything else.

BR,

Hannah

Hi,

i have fixed the problem using a wireless charger. The battery charges - meaning the usb connector probably is defect.

By the way: What is this nonsense of solving "10 riddles" when i want to log in? Never seen such a time wasting nonsence.
