XZ1 bent

Hi all

Has any looked at their XZ1 to see if it's straight?? Silly question I know but apparently I'm not alone..it's all over xda developers. It's not a huge bend and it's not due to the camera bump either before anyone says it. On mine  when I look at it when the power button is facing vertically and its screen is facing left, its bent concave by about  1.7mm.(Yes I did measure it)

It was also an issue with the the z3 I think too but I thought maybe Sony would have better quality control.

Now if a rep from Sony said it's within manufacturing tolerances then that's ok but there's plenty of posts on xda saying their XZ1 is fine.

I do have a case opened with Sony but as I'm in Ireland and I bought this of Amazon.co.uk I don't think Amazon would anything about it. Anyone have any suggestions?? Funny enough, I've just looked at my wife's XA2 and that's even worse!!!

I do love Sony phones and I've had them since the k750i but I'm starting to look elsewhere..

did you purchased the phone new or like new/used?

The "similar issues" that you are referring to are because users sat on the phone, or had them in their pockets, just like other brands, do you remember the bent iPhones?

Since this is a global user based forum, you should stay in contact with Sony and if possible amazon.

It was bought brand new from Amazon.

I'm not so sure if Amazon can do anything since the phone is fully functioning but I will raise the question.

I only noticed on Tuesday evening when I was setting it up. Really disappointed.

Unfortunately I didn't have any success with this. Pretty p*ssed off if I'm honest. I spoke to a Sony rep by phone and she advise me to go to the service centre to get them to look at it.

So I booked an appointment with them and duly turned up.

"It's a common problem we've seen all too often but as the handset is fully functional there's nothing we can do" was the response I got.

I can understand their point understand their argument and there's probably a manufacturing tolerance

in some service manual somewhere that dictates what's acceptable. Like what Apple said about bent iPads.

Anyway, it's put me off using Sony phones after 17 years. Have a OnePlus 7 pro bought for what an xz3 cost, with 3 times as much RAM and yes before anyone says but it's not got an  SD card slot I know, but 256gb of internal memory plus 100gb with Google drive more than covers me.

Anyway thanks to all for their advise.

Yes, 80% of Sony phones i have had are are not as marketing photos show. They are bent. For any obd person like myself this is extremely irritating. However, it does not get worse in time (in my case). As i have xz1 compact then for me there is no alternative.

It's annoying you pay so much for a "premium" device and then it's bent?!?

I wonder is it the reason so many manufacturers have moved to glass/ceramic etc??

Anyway that's in the past now. Moved to OnePlus and to be honest I don't know why I didn't before this

To be fair, I've never had any problems with any of my Sony phones but after speaking to some customer service rep who clearly doesn't give a sh1t hasn't helped. I live in Ireland and use three Ireland. Ive always had a SIM free phone cos I tend to jump networks pretty often. I wasn't willing to spend too much on a new phone but this was different. Yeah there's going to be some who'll argue that it's a 2 year old phone but ultimately it's a new device to me and Sony should fix it. But in my case, Sony let me down.

Yeah I'm on a OnePlus 7 now and so far I cant complain. Please let me assure everyone that I didn't take this decision lightly, I did look at the xz3 and the Xperia 1 but Sony come on it's 2019, you need to look at beefing up specs. The OnePlus 7 with 8gigs of ram and 256gb of storage (plus 100gb of Google drive) cost me €400.

So on that basis I had to jump ship. Plus I am also on Android 10.

Sorry for the rant but it's my experience.
