Hi there,
I've had issues with Google Play and Bluetooth over the past week since updating, on two seperate devices. I've also had WiFi connectivity problems with my Z5 Dual.
Google Play Installing & Updating Issues
If I try to download a new app on either device one of two things happens:
1. the download never starts
2. the download gets to 100% but doesnt install. with updates, generally whichever is first in the queue gets to 100%, then sometimes, 15mins/60mins/120mins later (no set timeframe) it might install itself.
I've tried all the online recommendations (clearing cache / data from Play Store and services, resetting devices, trying on a different network) nothing seems to be working. The fact this is occouring on two different devices (albeit from the same manufacturer) makes me feel its something about Play itself? Rather than the device.
Bluetooth Issues
I can connect to my Sony Wireless speaker perfectly fine. I can also cast video to my Bravia TV perfectly fine.
However, file transfer via Bluetooth just doesn't work. I have tried both from Z4->Z5 and Z5->Z4, as well as tried to send a file from the phone or tablet to my Laptop. The file transfer never happens, and about 15-20 mins later I'll have a 'failed' message occur.
WiFi Issues
I have also had a really strange issue with WiFi connectivity. I often use the Z5 to make WiFi calls via WhatsApp. I've never had issues before - but since Nougat - I have the call consistently dropping during the conversation, and lagging the voice. I've not changed broadband providers, and everything else in my home netwok works perfectly fine. It seems like there is a stall in the phone that is causing these file issues, installs and data transfer.
Smartphone (Sony Z5 Dual E6683, Android 7.0, play services 11.0.55, store 7.9.34)
Tablet (Sony Z4 SGP771, Android 7.0, play services 11.0.55, store 7.9.34)
Please any help would be really appreciated Thank you all
I'm not sure if sony will release a final firmware for the z family for 7.1, but I know that there are some changes to the broadcom and qcom firmware for wlan and bt. I haven't had a chance to resume tinkering with bluetooth, because if been waiting for the final changes to the device platform on github. the final binaries were released last week, and I got a 2nd z5c to develop on now too. z's are now a legacy product.
I'm going to tear apart the google bluetooth overlay and app so that the users have more control on archived files or errors, then I'll ping Sony and say hay... can you guys patch this to an OTA or something. I use bt for file transfer alot.. but google don't like that
