Screen does not sleep

My Xperia Z3 D6603 display does not turn off (sleep) after the amount of time prescribed in the settings.

The screen will sometimes stay one indefinitely, sometimes it will however turn off by itself, sometimes after the set time, sometimes after longer time. It has the same behaviour when charging or not charging, when Smart Backlight is on or off, when stamina mode is on or off, and pretty much any other settings I try to change does not change this behaviour.

However, if I start the phone in safe mode, the screen will sleep as expected; also, after a restart from safe mode, it will sleep normally for a while, then at some point the screen just stays on.

Hi, i was going to ask/suggest if you had a screen protector on BUT as you mentioned that the phone works fine in Safe Mode i would think that perhaps a 3rd Party App is affecting your phone..........i've added a link that explains a bit.........can you think of any 3rd Party Apps that you have installed recently about the same time or a bit before these issues started Thinking_Face

If safe mode doesn't work then repair your phone with PCC and check again

PC Companion (PCC)

Bridge (for Mac)

@Dandy , i wouldnt say its a 3rd party app as "also, after a restart from safe mode, it will sleep normally for a while" that means it is a software problem otherwise after rebooting it to normall mode it would do the same stright away but it stays for a while.

Also , i suggest you to actually do the Software repair using PC comapanion as uli said.

You can also try (before doing the software repair) activating the AVG antivirus PRO as its free for the Z3 models and scan your device . It might show some programs that might affect your device and you should uninstall them. It will also show settings which may let viruses into your phone and it will tell you to untick them ex. Unknown sources which will allows you to install apps from different sources than Google Play Store.

Good luck.

Hi @Curnow1 ..........my understanding of running a device in Safe Mode for a while and you don’t experience the initial problem, the problem you’re having is most likely related to a third party app that has been installed.......if it was a Software problem this would still show up whilst in Safe Mode would it not?

If i am wrong & believe me i have been before i apologise....lets just hope that at the end of the day it is resolved no matter what course of action is taken Slightly_smiling_Face

for some reason my login is not recognized so I had to create another user

anyway

Thank you all for answers, I really appreciate it taking your time.

I tried the AVG solution, it only finds the "install from unkown sources" issue, which I corrected even though it can't/shouldn't be the cause

I will try to PC repair thing and report back.

Regarding the 3rd party application answer - while this is entirely possible, I think that this is quite unacceptable. I have 3rd party apps because I need them. I never had such issues on any phone, and I used samsung, LG, motorola, custom ROM's, official ROM's, cyanogen, paranoid, you name it - never seen anything like this. This is purely an issue with Sony's implementaion of Android. The OS should simply not allow any 3rd party to mess with these basic settings, or if it does, the user should know exactly what's going on. I shouldn't have to experiment with installing and uninstalling apps to see what works, everything should work. this is not a beta product, it's one of the most expensive phones on the market at this moment.

I had the same issue, follow below steps:

  • Remove all the notifications [Not even single one]

That'a it!

I am a new user of a Z3+. I have the phone just for a few days and this problem started yesterday. I removed the Airdroid app and the problem is gone.
