Get "Connect your TV to the Internet to use this feature" when selecting "Popular" in TV guide

XH80 Android TV - I Get "Connect your TV to the Internet to use this feature" when selecting the "Popular" tab at the top of the TV guide.

Internet is connected and working using the Ethernet connection

Also, not getting any Gracenote programme details - could that be connected?

Unfortunately there are no mobile hotspots in our local area that I can use to test that idea

If you have a smartphone (Android/iOS), you can create a temporary one over mobile data just to test it out.

Unfortunately, that's not an option for me

In that case, maybe try clearing the cache (under Device Preferences - Storage - Internal Shared Storage - Cached data) then restart by holding power.

Double checking you have the latest software version (v6.5042) is also a good idea.

Hope this helps!

I had similar intermittent network connection problems with some apps reporting no connection.

Reboots would fix it, but it would then re-appear.

i manually amended the dns settings on the TV to google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and that cured the issue completely.

Hi Joe - This advice works - Thanks.

I've worked out that if I select the "clear cache" option up to 4 times in a row, the size drops from about 50Mb to 4Mb. Also, no need to re-boot. It just works. I need to perform this function about every 2 weeks, though.

However, the big questions are - "Why is the cache filling up?" and "Why do I need to clear the cache so regularly?"

Hey Bob1771, that's normal on smart TVs in general, as the mobile phones.Using apps fills the cache memory on your device and clearing them enhances the over all OS and the motherboard performance.

I still have this issue with having to clear the cache almost once a week, which I am finding unacceptable. It seems to be getting to about 126Mb each time it needs to be cleared, where, before the latest software upgrade it was about 45Mb, so something may have changed with the latest release.

Why does the cache not automatically clear when the TV is switched on? Surely that should be a simple update to the software?
