KD55XH9005 ARC Issue
I purchased this TV last week, which I'm very happy with apart from an issue I am having with my LG Sound Bar. I have it connected to the TV via HDMI ARC, but for some reason it keep defaulting to Optical. I have manually switched the bar to HDMI but this does not help. I have tried several HDMI cables to no avail and have even resorted to factory resetting the TV, but still no luck.
On the settings of the TV I have turned the eARC option to off to see if that made a difference, I have also toggled Bravia sync on and off to see if this would force the ARC connection, but once again this didn't help.
I have also noted the TV has restarted itself a couple of time while I was in the settings menus and also when I switch the TV off it will power up the Sound Bar randomly. Could this be a software/firmware issue? Is anyone else having similar issues?
Thanks.

Hi MrWh1t3,
Have you checked if there's a firmware update for the soundbar too?
Can you please verify that CEC is enabled on the soundbar?
Cheers
Peter

Hi Peter_S
There does not appear to be any firmware update for the sound bar. According the instruction manual for the bar, you just need to connect to a tv that supports ARC/HDMI CEC, there is no HDMI CEC on/off setting on the bar.

I have the exact same issue on my 65 inch xh9005 - other users reported this issue as well. I hope Sony will bring out a hotfix fast!
Maybe it makes sense to focus on one thread so we can easier raise the customer voice:

You need Bravia Sync On for ARC to work from the TV.
When you turn off eARC, does that leave ARC on?
If your soundbar does not do eARC, that shouldn’t matter, as it and the TV should together negotiate ARC in these circumstances.
My favourite bedtime reading is a Sony product manual…

Bravia Sync is on and As far as I am aware turning eARC off doesn’t stop ARC, but someone can correct me if I am wrong.
I have just found a workaround for the time being . I have to unplug the HDMI cable from HDMI 3 (ARC/eAEC). Turn the TV on then plug the HDMI cable back in to HDMI 3 and the sound bar will switch to ARC.
Not sure why that should work over just switching the TV on with it connected though and not ideal.

It seems to be a software issue. I contacted the Sony support via mail. Keep you posted.

Same here - we just disconnected the sound bar altogether and TV hasn't turned itself off since, but this is not good enough, we should be able to use our sound bar without these issues, I wish Sony would solve this asap!

Hi TW1234,
I've seen some users on other threads reporting better performance after turning off eARC and only using ARC, as well as removing the TuneIn Radio app, so maybe try doing that until a reply is available from Matic_Prime (which is very helpful).

Hi, I've done all that. Just an hour ago, loud noise followed by no sound and TV switched off / rebooted itself. No sound bar connected. Just HDMI 1 hooked up to Sky box. Very annoying for an expensive new TV to be acting like this.
