My model KD - 49XD8305 screen flickers repeatedly from Higher Definition to a distorted definition every 3 to 5 seconds. It’s really strange and annoying and has only just started happening. Can anyone help please? I use Sky Q and have ruled out a box fault as it doesn’t happen using other TVs connected to the Sky Q box therefore a TV fault with my KD - 49XD8305 Sony.
Does it start straightaway when you turn the TV on? How is the TV ventilated? Could it be overheating?
If not:-
Using the same HDMI cable?
Try a different HDMI PORT.
Try a different device connected by HDMI to the offending port, if it doesn’t happen with all of them.
Thanks for coming back to me, much appreciated.
Yes I’m using the same HDMI cable
I’ve tried using all 4 different ports and it still flickers
I’ve tried connecting another TV using the same HDMI cable from my Sky Q box and that TV works!
I’ve gone into the Sony menu independent of the Sky Q box and that flickers
I’m therefore concluding I have an issue with the TV itself!
Hi @Malletb1
Are you running the latest software? Firmware update to v6.7210 | Sony UK
Have you tried resetting to TV, soft reboot first and then factory reset if needed.
Your 2016 model TV must be out of warranty, but always worth speaking to Sony. You never know, they may have a solution.

Thanks for the response, much appreciated.
The firmware is up to date, I have my profile set to receive automatic updates. I’ve been in and checked.
Yes I have done the soft reboot without the remote, this has made no difference I’m afraid.
I’ll try and speak to Sony. Thx.
Thanks for the suggestions. It does happen as soon as I turn the set on so it’s not a ventilation issue. I have also tied all 4 different HDMI ports. I’m going to book it in with an approved Sony repairer. I’ve taken some pics of the screen showing what it looks like.
Hello @Malletb1, does this happen with different HDMI devices or just the Sky Q box? Have you also tried a factory reset?
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve tried all possibilities and it’s an issue with the actual TV set. I’ve now sent it off to an approved Sony repairer for their diagnosis.
Thx. Unfortunately the repairer says the TV required a new LCD, the part number was not available from Sony as it was discontinued. The 6 year old TV is now scrap! Not good for Sony may think twice about getting a replacement!
