All the common UK catchup tv apps appear to be missing for the tv and they cannot be installed from google play store.. spec clearly states YouView support and specifically iPlayer.. surely i cant be the only one that has noticed these are not there?!
Yeah, it's great that they did honour their promise by making the apps available by the end of year.
But would be a great learning opportunity for something like this not to happen again in the future, as most reviews on the new line-up are already positive.
Imagine if they had catch up apps from the get go, they would've been the number 1 sold TV across the UK by far, instead a lot of the TVs were returned and refunded, and other customers just went for other brands, just to get the apps even knowing they're sacrificing a superior TV when it comes to the picture and sound quality.
At last, as of this week youview plus all catch up apps are now available on all 2021 Bavia tvs tried and tested once updated tv system
It is not possible use the catchup apps while a recording is in progress! My seven year old Samsung 22" TV can record while I use a catchup app, and the recording is far more reliable than on my Sony A80J.
I have been a great fan of Sony TVs over the years and was about to upgrade my old non Android TV.
I wanted the new OLED TV to support the main UK catchup app, BBC iPlayer, All4, ITV Hub etc as I do not use Sky or other box. Currently I watch these via a Windows PC under the TV, which is getting a bit long in the tooth.
So I was very disappointed to see that these aren't available on the Sony 55" OLED TV (running GoogleTV) my sister has just purchased.
But looking at the latest posts, it seems to be resolved, fingers crossed. I might be getting a new Sony TV after all! It's a shame these issues aren't sorted in pre-production though.
Hey @GandFF,
Well, yeah that has been already addressed and Sony released a software update that allows you to get YouView and the Catch up apps on the TV: https://bit.ly/32ArXbP.
Cheers.
I have x90J, (just purchased a week ago) it is listed under Sony as applicable for software update and to have ITV Hub, BBC iPlayer, etc. The firmware was updated a few days ago to the latest v6.4303, BUT STILL THERE IS NO available ITV hub, nor BBC player nor Live TV& Catch up, etc (however there is My5). When at laptop, the google play (https://play.google.com/store/apps) e.g. for BBC iplayer it says: "This app is available for some of your devices" and in list indicate my phones as compatible, Sony TV as not.
Do other have similar problems, after December software ver v6.4303 still no UK TV online services??
(and yes, I am in UK, in setup was selected UK, even I have now enabled location services in the TV)
Hey there,
Hmmm, this is kinda weird since you updated the TV, but it might be worth a shot checking this: https://bit.ly/32ArXbP.
Maybe the apps are just hidden.
Hope this helps!
On my TV the apps were in "Sony select"
You can move them out of there to your home screen.
Yea, that's also true, you can look at ''Sony Select'' through the home menu as well.
Yes, I have tried also as per that guide "See All".
BTW the My5 was not there either, however My5 I can find through Home screen/search for apps and games. My5 is there ready to be installed if I want. BBC, ITV Hub can not be find in app search (and are not in already installed apps)
