I've had my HT-RT4 for around a year and a half now and it was working fine for the first year or so, but now it will sometimes just completely drop out. No sound will come from the speakers without me even interfering with the cables around the back of the TV or sub woofer.
I originally thought it might be the optical cable so I ordered a new one from Amazon and it seemed to work fine, but I've noticed that it is still happening. I've tried disconnecting the pillar(?) speakers to see if they might be interfering somehow but it still happens with just the soundbar and subwoofer.
Has anyone had this issue or know of some way I can look at fixing this? If not, I'll probably give up and get another sound bar.
Have you tried disconnecting everything and unplugging the system from the power for about 3mins to depower everything in case this was a power glitch/electrical interference?
If you've tried that, maybe try a factory reset next (Manual page 28)
I've just tried disconnecting everything and powering it off for 3 mins and it seems to be working for now. If the issue happens again I'll try the factory reset method. Thanks!
So the audio dropped out again and I tried the factory reset method but still no luck
Does the audio drop out over Bluetooth and HDMI too?
I played podcasts over bluetooth and it didn't drop out. Have changed the settings over now to work with HDMI instead of optical out. Will report back with either a success or fail.
Tested it for a good couple hours last night and it seemed to be working just fine.
Is there much of a difference between HDMI and optical out? Apart from taking up a HDMI slot to use it?
HDMI can carry higher quality signals and/or more channels than Optical.
Not sure if it's directly relevant here, could be a faulty optical connector in either of them or just a random glitch.

Thanks Joe! Guess I'll use HDMI from now on then!
I had a drop out last night, but it only lasted a couple seconds. I guess the system itself might have a slight fault?
