HT-ZF9 - "no input" message, how to disable

I have the HT-ZF9 soundbar, with a nvdia shield and a bluray player connected direct to the soundbar.
Soundbar is then conected to LG OLED tv via HDMI (eARC).

the snag i have is that when the shield goes to sleep, the TV detects that and applies the "artwork" screensaver, however after about 5 seconds the soundbar kicks in and overrides it by sending a static message to the screen saying that here is no input on HDMI1 and to make sure it's connected properly.

there are 2 issues with this.

1) the soundbard is overriding any device going to sleep and forcing a message on screen

2) for burn-in protection a static message is not ideal hence why the TV has it's own screensaver - the soundbard is stopping this.

is it possible to disable to "no input" message the soundbar is outputting to the TV?

Hi ch3nks,

You can turn off the soundbar or e.g. select a different input.

Or you might want to disable HDMI-control.

Cheers

hi think you might have misunderstood the issue.

the soundbar is outputing a signal to the TV when the device connected to the soundbar is in sleep mode.

i don't want the soundbar to output a signal telling me the connected device is not there.

so turning off the sounbar is not approrpriate and selecting a different input is clearly not appropriate.

i doubt HDMI control has anything to do with it (however if you state which specific HDMI control setting then i can try it), the soundbar is purporosely sending a signal to the TV even when the HDMI input has no signal.

it's sending a static message to the TV which could cause screen burn (it's an OLED tv). the TV isn't able to display it's screensaver because the soundbar is forcing an image on screen.

Hi @ch3nks

Since the Sound bar features Pass-through, it will keep sending this signal to the TV as long as the selected input (on the TV) is that of the Sound bar. I guess I'm having hard time understanding why you would want to stay on that input if you're not using any of the Sound bar inputs because that effectively means you're not actually playing any video nor audio, which is to say you're not actually using the TV.

If I understand correctly, your TV can be used to play content from other sources (TV, Apps, USB or input from other HDMI devices connected to it) OR to play content from the Sound bar (through the Nvidia Shield/Blu-ray player you mentioned). But if none of these is even selected, then why would you want to keep the TV on instead of on Standby?

i only play content via the soundbar (i use zero services that are actually on the TV).

the issue is this.

we play content from the shield, maybe have it playing stuff in the background whilst we go about out daily business. the content stops, and after a period of time the shield goes to sleep (as it should).

The tv knows it has gone to sleep as it is no longer receiving anything from it, the screen goes black and the built-in screensaver on the TV kicks in - all good so far.

however after about 5 seconds the soundbar overrides this, sends a signal to the TV to say that it's not receiving an input from HDMI1 - well yes i know this. the message is static and could cause burn-in on an OLED TV.

IMO, the soundbar should not be sending a static permanent image/message to the TV just because i device that is connected to it has gone to sleep.

Hi @ch3nks

This just seems to be the way the Sound bar is designed (as there would be no reason to select HDMI ARC unless you want to use the Sound bar by accessing its menus or using a device connected to it), so it only makes sense for it to inform the user that it's no longer receiving signal from the connected Bluray player or set top box.

My advice: keep that part of sound bar functionality in mind and don't leave your TV on HDMI ARC when not in use, as it's always going to be receiving a signal from it regardless if the connected devices are on or off.

i think you've totally missed the point, but hey-ho.

i'm not leaving the TV on "HDMI ARC", it's on HDMI2 which is what the soundbar is connected to, and is the only device connected to the TV.

i have no issue with the soundbar always sending a signal, i don't need it telling me that the soundbar is not receiving a signal from its own HDMI ports though.

the TV nevers gets a chance to put itself into sleep mode because the soundbar is overriding it by sending it a signal to say it's not receiving a signal - a totally pointless feature and a feature that could damage the TV.

Try to turn the TV off. The soundbar will still play. (If you cast music on it from any other device.)
