My STR-DN1080 is suddenly dead silent.
It is just 2 years old and a few days ago, I turned it on from Standby and it had no sound at all.
The AVR is connected to a PC and a TV and with playing back anything, the AVR shows No Streaming and no sound comes out of the speakers.
Also tried Bluetooth and Airplay with my phone wirelessly and it still had no sound.
Tried Headohones, and still no sound.
Checked Muting function on and off and nothing.
I did a reset/initialize for the AVR and went to Auto Calibrate, first time it halted after the 5-1 counter at 1 and then I changed Speakers layout and disabled height channels and for my surprise, it started the calibration tones and worked fine.
3 days later, the same exact thing happened. This time though, I did the same procedure and auto calibration started but stopped at the last channel check and I could not get anything to work since then no matter what I do.
Everything looks fine with the AVR, power, changing sources, connections and speakers, wireless. Everything except producing sound.
I don't think it is covered under warranty and even if it was, I bought it from Amazon.co.uk shipped to Egypt and I don't know if we have Sony service centers here.
Any idea what could be wrong internally?
Hi,
Is your 1080 running the latest software?
Cheers
Peter
Yes, it is on M41.R.0445 since it came out.
It's not up to date then:
let us know how it goes

I posted my reply on Saturday, Oct 17 and that latest firmware was released on Oct 20.
Anyway, for some reason, after I disconnected it for a few days and ran another AVR I have, I went back to the STR-DN1080 just 3 days ago to test it and it worked.
I thought it was just a temporary issue or something and it should be fine.
It worked great for 3 days and I updated to the new M41.R.0516 firmware but today, no sound again!
Turned it off and then back on and it outputted sound for less than a minute then went silent again.
Off and on again and sound worked for less than a minute then stopped again.
Off and on again, no sound, again and again, and still no sound.
Hi @r9800pro
I don't think that you can do any more from the user's perspective. Try checking with a Sony service centre:
