Hi all,
I got my mobile connected with my pc in Media Transfer mode. then I was moving (Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V)) the photos from my phone internal memory to the sd card DCIM photo folder using windows explorer on my PC .
The files have got moved. but after this my phone is jammed whenever I try to launch walkman, Album, camera or any other application. Until I launch an applicaiton my phone is working fine but after opening an applicaiton after a min my phone becomes unresponsive.
Niether Sony PC Companion is not finding my phone nor I can see my phone under My Computer
. So I am not able to backup any of my required files.
Does factory reset will delete all the files, music, photos and videos I had stored on my mobile?
Is there any other reason behind this behaviour?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Cut and paste from phone memory to SD card could affect the phone only
- if you cut a folder where there is a hidden system file used by an app.
- If cut/past process doesn't complete correctly and there are corrupted files.
But usually cut and paste single files like photos, video etc doesn't create any issue.
In my opinion probably there is a problem on SD card because you are experiencing issues setting SD card as default storage
So i suggest you
- Remove SD card
- Do a data backup on your PC
- Make a deep format (not fast one) with NTFS file system
- Replug SD card
You can also try to use phone without SD card and verify if works better
Safe mode loads only stock app and processes. So if no issue in safe mode you must do a factory reset because problem is caused by a third party app. Factory reset makes your phone as brand-new removing all data/files/settings and all you have done after purchase.
I suggest you to use android automatic backup: settings>backup&restore
This backup will restore settings and will autodownload apps after restore, but doesn't save personal files (music, photos...)
In this tab you can also start factory reset
Strange behaviour:smileyconfused:
Anyway a factory reset will delete all your personal data so before do this you can try to:
- Load system in safe mode and verify if issue is the same
- Try to switch USB connection mode from MSC to MTP (or viceversa) and check in device manager how windows recognises your xperia (under the voice mobile devices)
Hi Cot88,
Thanks for your reply. I will try the steps you have mentioned, except for one which i had already tried and is of no use [Try to switch USB connection mode from MSC to MTP (or viceversa) and check in device manager how windows recognises your xperia (under the voice mobile devices)]
But i have one query meanwhile; doing Ctrl+X n Ctrl+V from phone memory to SD card would affect the phone[any internal files would have got affected]?
because in the camera when I try to select the storage device as SD card it starts to hang and I get different com.sony.Uixxx, etc is not responding messages.
Also could you please tell me what I have to if it works smooth in safe mode and if it doesn't.
Is there any link which explains on how to backup and restore?
And I could see 2 options under settings>backup & reset >[personal data]
1) Factory data reset - which would erase all data on phone memory
2) Settings reset - Could this be explained??????
But i will try the other options, which you have provided me and update you.

Great catch Cot88,
I removed the SD card and now it is working properly. You nailed it, the file movement seems to have caused this issue. I wiill try to backup my SD Card and try to reformat it and connect my phone again. Fingers Crossed.
Hi Cot88,
I have done the format of SD card and copied the contents back to the SD card. Now the mobile is not hanging and working fine.
Thanks.
