Latest firmware update for KDL-37EX503?

My TV shows PKG4.089EUL-0108. Is this the latest? I ask because when I view BBC iPlayer, it is the Beta version and does not show what I get on my computer?

Yes this is the latest firmware. Its down to the BBC when the service comes out of Beta as they operate the service.

When you say it doesn't show what you get on your computer, do you mean in terms of the user interface of the actual content lineup? The GUI for BRAVIA iPlayer is basically the same as the Freesat version, as TV's dont have browsers built in, they cannot replicate the traditional Player Big Screen interface. The content itself should be largely the same with the exception of HD content as the BBC haven't yet switched this feature on.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply. The TV version is BETA. My computer is not and shows far more content. For example, WILD HOGS film is available now on my computer iPlayer but not shown on the TV version. There is considerably less shown on the TV compared to the computer. Why, with the latest firmware update, would the iPlayer be a Beta version? It should be the same as the computer!!

Just for information....the latest BBC iPlayer which I have on my computer came out of Beta testing late September 2010. It begs the question why not on my Sony TV??

They are different pieces of software thus have varying development schedules with the BBC I presume. The PC version is V3. On Blu-ray Players we currently offer V2 as BBC have not announced when V3 will be available for CE devices. On BRAVIA we offer the Freesat version over MHEG. At present they have not yet announced when ths will come out of Beta, but I wouldn't worry too much about the Beta tag as it shouldn't impeed your enjoyment of the service.

Content rights differ depending on the platform. Thus premium content is not available on Youtube for example as Google do not have the rights to stream it to CE devices, only PC's. So it may well be down to rights limitations as to why some content is not available via the BRAVIA. Content rights are down to the provider, so maybe this question is best directed towards the BBC in this case?

Hope this helps

Thanks for all your help.....for someone who is not a techno wizard, I find it often disappointing that you buy things only later to find there is always some technical reason why it isn't as you expected! The Freeview that comes with this TV sounded good with the promise of HD only to find it's not available in my area for a long time! Also, a vast majority of the Sony listings on the Internet have such awful content, it's not really worth looking! Anyway, enough of Mr. Grumpy.....Thanks again and have a great New Year.
