I own a SONY 32" W5500. Although I am happy with the TV generally there is an ongoing problem with the TVs programme guide. Often (and I mean VERY often) several channels, including strong BBC signals, have no information either regarding the channel or the programme. All you get is "NO EVENT INFORMATION". This can be irritating when trying to see what's on later, let alone what is currently on!? I have tried updating the firmware via USB (I shouldnt have to do this every day!!) this seems to work for 24 hours or so. I have a Lan line plugged in but you don't seem to be able to update the guide via this connection? I also often leave the set on standby over night as ive been told this may help, it doesn't help with the guide info' but must help my electricity bill go up a little?
I also heard that it might be the signal strength from the digital ariel transmitter (I live in Macclesfield,NW England) and that if i re-tune the set without the ariel pugged in then plug it in when the scan reaches 51%, this might solve which transmitter I recieve the signal from and aid the guide info'???
I bought this SONY last Xmas over the similar Panasonic model (next time ill go for a Panasonic i think...) Surely there has to be a simple way to solve this issue. Or as I suspect have SONY sold thousands of units with weak info guides? I have been on several forums checking this problem and I keep seeing similar issues (all be it on different Sony sets and products) and everyone says that SONY are unaware of there been a problem with its EPGs...? SONY obviously have very short term memories...
Any useful advice would be most appreciated
Cheers.
I'm off to watch something on BBC3, unfortunately I have no idea what it is that I am watching...
PS on a separate issue what exactly is the score re' web content been accessible via the Internet on my W5500, I heard that Sony are not supporting web access to their products that are more than a year old? What's their reasoning? If this is true then that's really poor form by SONY.
