What formats are acceptable on a Sony TV

Could someone tell me what video formats can be used on my Sony KDL-42W653A TV.I want to connect a hard drive to the TV using a USB cable but the contents of the hard drive are in MPEG1/2 format.Will they play on my Sony TV.tHANKS
