Hi, first time poster. I'm having a problem with my Blu Ray drive on my Sony Vaio FZ31S. It will not play any CDs or DVDs. Device Manager says, "The device cannot start. (Code 10)". Can anyone help?

welcome to Club VAIO..

Press the windows key+R to open the Run box type devmgmt.msc and press OK

Click Continue on the User Account Control window.

Double click dvd/cd-rom drives..

Right click on your drive and select uninstall

Restart your Vaio and allow the device to be re-installed again..

Code 10 normally indicates a hardware fault or a physical disconnection. It is the code used by Microsoft when no other error code applies - the code of last resort.

That means it's faulty or it has become unplugged.

Time to contact Sony if you are still within warranty. You could try a full System Recovery back to original settings to eliminate a possible software problem but talk to Sony first.
