PC works fine normal colour & contrast from Nvidia GT640M . Play a video and PC appears to revert to basic Windows Display adaptor. Use device manager to disable then enable Nvidia, system resets until next play of a video. Have reloaded a clean copy of Nvidia drivers to no benefit.
Hi there,
Welcome to the Sony Community.
I would recommend getting in touch with the Sony Support team for further help with this here.
Best wishes,
Sean
Thanks for the post . I did that. Reply below. The least help possible!
With reference to your enquiry about the graphics card, we recommend restoring the VAIO to the original factory settings, by performing a Full Recovery as explained in the below link:

Which version of Windows do you have installed? Have you installed a newer version?
Which nVidea driver version do you have installed?
This is the latest driver released by Sony - it is quite old but replaces the older Win8 drivers originally for your model.

Hi Thanks for the reply
.Windows10 1903 build 10.0.1.1836
Nvidia GT640m 25.21.14.2531
As far as I can tell the latest available for both.
Is it worth installing a quite old Nvidia driver?
I have removed VLC as the default video player . Using Leawo Blue ray player seems to help.

Robert
I have just realized as from 15.12.19 the latest windows 10 installed is 1909.
Hi there,
I was thinking this could be related to the way the video player handles video rendering. If the issue only happens when using VLC, I think you should look for an alternative or to contact the developer for a solution.
Win_88
Thanks Win
Please note this problem also exists with Windows Media player, and did not cause difficulties for some years previously.
It also doesn't appear to matter the type of video file eg MP4 or M2ts.
If I look at display adapters, Device Manager, the only one listed is the Nvidia one unless I uninstall it . (not just disable) The Basic windows adapter appears. However, this does not work well. Cannot get a basically resonable picture. Thanks R
Hi Jones,
If the issue only started recently, maybe you can try restoring the system using a restore point to a time where this didn't happen?
Win_88
Thanks for the thought . I have tried this. unfortunately the restore failed. Otherwise a good idea.
