XP Service Pack 3 ?

Hi everyone. I'm being nagged every day upon startup to install the following update: Microsoft Service Pack 3. My Vaio notebook is a VGN-FJ1Z/W running Windows XP Service Pack 2.

Is it totally safe to do this update? I worry as my system has been running perfectly for years and I have lots of precious programs and data.

Has anyone experienced problems after updating with SP3 ?

welcome to Club VAIO..

I installed SP3 on my FS without problems but other members have had problems..

Many thanks for the quick reply, Thalamus. I suspected updating to sp3 could be dangerous! Would you know how to turn off the update nag screen? I would have expected to see the usual 'don't ask me again' toggle but there is none. I would like to have the option of remaining current with other updates however.

Hi John,

from memory I think you can...

Click on the update prompt, then choose custom install..

Uncheck SP3and then a window appears asking if you want to never be told about this update, tick the box..

Hopefully that will stop the SP3 update nag screen..
