Forgotten password

I have forgotten the password for my xperia z2 phone. It is a letter password, not pattern or pin. Is there a way I can unlock it w/o the password? I am fine with loosing data from the phone by hard reseting, or just getting the password lifted. I do not have MyXperia active.

You could try Android device manager but other than that you would need to perform a system repair as below

Performing a system repair using PC Companion - This will factory reset your phone and erase all data

Switch off your phone and unplug from Pc (Hold volume up and power for around 10 seconds)
Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process

If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP

tried using android device manager - I used lock and a new password, and all it did was bring me to a screen that said my recovery message. What am I suppost to do?

I've no idea - From what I've read you would lock your phone and enter a password then on your phone enter that password assuming it can 1st of all detect your device, if not then the 2nd option is your only choice
