Major problems!!

i have recently bought the xperia x10 and it has been going great until....

the memory card keeps unmounting and i try to do a software update and it says memory card error as it is not reading the memory card

i dont know what to do im hoping someone could point me in the right direction?

would be much appreciated i must remind that its the Xperia X10 normal not the mini or mini pro

i have seen that its quite a common fault

sort it out sony ericsson!

I got my X10 today and the CD card has the same problem.  I doesn't stay mounted for long after turning on the phone.  I've tried reseating it a few times but that hasn't improved matters.

When I got the phone I updated the firmware with the latest release but that's about all I've done.

Think I was a little premature with thinking I had a problem.  Didn't realise that the card unmounted when connected to the PC via USB.  Once I disconnect from the PC the SD Card mounts.

Yes Bowsa, connecting the phone to the PC causes the card to mount/unmount, whichever. It's why when you try to use Update Service the program wants you to have your phone connected to the USB port when the phone is off.
