I'm sorry to hear that, but you can request a vacuum test, that will prove who is at fault, either you have a defective unit or if there's physical damage to the phone such as but no limited to cracked screen, cracked back, damaged housing, etc or even if you didn't firmly closed the cover water could permeate, and this won't be covered by warranty as it will be user's fault, but that's my take on it, don't quote me on that.
