The only way I have been able to do this is using HandCent sms app from the market which gives you the group option when inputting the 'To' and then hitting group and starred in android. You have to have used the star/favorite function in the phone book but that only gives you one group of people, so not actually a proper answer to the question. If anyone has a better way / work around then I'd be grateful for it!
Thanks....I'm very surprised and extremely disappointed really....this feature I really need and can't believe this phone doesn't have it. Every other phone I've in my life in the last 10 years has had it. I've tried using the SMS Cent app but it doesn't work that well..ie. is clumsey etc..therefore i can't trust it to work properly ...any other ideas anyone ?...surely someone else has developed another app to do this ?
Hi there, small update since previous reply. On recommendation on AndroidForum I downloaded an app called MeContacts. It gives you a grid of 24 squares that you allocate a contact to, then you can add extra grids (assume of 24 each time) as far as I can see so you can group your contacts. It has a group SMS function on there which I haven't used but might be more what you are looking for? Its a freebie from the market so might be worth a go. The only quirk it has is that you need to have the mobile number first on the contact list but then so does Handcent to autopick up the number for texting.
