Android 9 volume

Just had the new update. Now though, the volume keys only alter the media volume, not the ring/notification volume. Only got the option to put ring into vibrate mode or have to go into the settings. Is there a way to change this as I can't find one?

yes, the additional slider simply shows up when the phone is ringing or playing a notification.

Yeah, i noticed the same,  but its stupid. There should be bouth of them all the time. I really hope that they fix this issue in some update. Overall the phone is been some sort of disapointment, beside the camera..

All of you are very kind and polite, I'm surprised and appreciate this. It's really annoying to digging in the settings to change the volume of the ringtone. It was so useful. Not to mention about other features and changes (some of my playlist gone)  It's quite sad that when I called the Sony helpline re: missing volume adjustment the only answer was reinstalling the software. 😭 Thankfully, my gut feeling told me not to doing this.

PLEASE, GIVE ME BACK MY USEFUL DEVICE. 🙏

Hi @salaine and @Wierzej,

There is no setting that will change it back to how it worked in Android Oreo, as this is default behaviour for Android Pie.

I will of course forward the feedback from the both of you though, but I can't promise that there will be a change.

Have a nice weekend and thanks again! Slightly_smiling_Face

Thanks for your reply.

I'm only wondering why nobody asked me if I'm happy about such significant change? In my profession, before I chop off someone's hand is well seen to have his permission.

How important is to the Mankind if I use Oreo or Pie?

I am finding the volume control very irritating.  I need to have my phone on all the time but depending on where I am within the day I need to adjust the volume and having to go into the settings is not quick and it also plays a sample of the volume. This needs fixing ASAP. Why can't the volume and media sliders be together??!!

I agree Myers, I've kinda got used to it because I've had to but the sample playing is just damned annoying and unneccesary.

Hello everyone and sorry for my late reply. I have been out of office due to vacation.

@Myers1812, This is how it works in Android Pie and it can't be changed, however I can understand that it's maybe not as important having to listen to the ring tone when you are adjusting it every time. I'll will forward your feedback! Slightly_smiling_Face

@Capn, thank you for your feedback as well! Slightly_smiling_Face

Have a nice day!

Please don't say that. Usefulness of the device significantly declined after the software upgrade. It isn't only the case of volume control but the camera app is more difficult to use, alarm clock as well and certification of the web pages etc...

Is not fair to change someone's device without his permission.

I'm also joining the bandwagon of customers unhappy with this change.

And yes, I know it's Google who has changed this functionality. And I don't think Google has any plans to fix it before Android 10.

So, I'm only hoping that with enough feedback, Sony might see it as a good thing to provide fix for this. Even just adding some kind of button to expand the volume sliders to show Ring and Alarm (the UI already exists). Going to settings to adjust volume and then have it play your ringtone at that volume is annoying.
