Ghost Touches in Cold Weather

Ghost Touches in Cold Weather

I purchased my XZ2 Premium in Taiwan and recently came back to Chicago.  In the past week, I started experiencing ghost touches on my device (e.g. apps starting by themselves, random letters when the keyboard pops up).  I initially thought it was an application I recently installed causing the issues but the problem still came back after I uninstalled those applications.  I thought it might be the network causing issues with my device but putting the device in airplane mode didn't solve it.  I have Bitdefender installed on my device and all scans came back clean.  Whenever I ran into the ghost issues, I was always outside so this is when I realized it might be the cold weather causing the ghost touch issues.  It's been cooler recently...around 40 degrees F during the day, 20s at night.  I placed my device in the freezer for 30 minutes and after taking it out, the ghost touch issues were there.  After the device warmed up, the ghost touch issues went away.

Has anyone else in cold weather experienced this issue?  I'm trying to figure out if I have a defective device or if this is a hardware/software issue.  Any help or comments are appreciated.  Thank you.

Hi, I've not encountered this myself and it does sound like a pain for you, it would annoy me.

Do you have any protectors fitted? Glove mode activated?

Thank you for your response.

I do have a screen protector and a flexible silicone case.  I initially thought it might be oil from my fingers leaving residue on the screen protector but before my freezer test, I did wash my screen.  The screen protector was placed on my smartphone by the store clerk right after I bought it so there's no oil residue underneath either.  Considering the phone works perfectly fine in non-freezing temperatures, I don't think it's the screen protector.  But as a last resort, I will take it off to test if it is the problem if I can't find a solution.

As for the silicone case, taking it off didn't resolve the ghost touch issues.

Glove mode is off.

Restarting the phone didn't do anything either.  The ghost touch issue only went away when I went inside and the phone warmed up.

Thank you.

It could be the protector, glass will stay rigid in cold weather where rubbers, will shrink.

I assume your protector is the wet applied pet style ones?

The screen protector wasn't wet applied. It adheres to the screen after the protective film is removed. I'll mess around with this for a couple more days and if nothing else works, I'll remove the screen protector to see if it resolves the problem.

Thank you.

My money is on the screen protector. I havnt used one in  years. Most phone screens are super durable as long as you don't take a set of keys to it.

This is not screen protector issue because I don't have it and this problem is here. How to fix this?

У меня тоже на холоде сенсорный экран сам по себе срабатывает, со старым z2 такого не было.

I, too, in the cold touch screen itself works, with the old z2 this was not.
