Manual Mode Camera Shutter Speed Range

Hi all,

I have an Xperia Z3 and am considering upgrading to Xperia XZ Premium. From reading around about the Xperia XZs (which is supposed to have the same camera as the XZ Premium), I found out that the slowest shutter speed the XZs camera in the manual mode would go to is 1s (highest 1/4000s).

Can the shutter speed on the XZ Premium go lower than 1s? Can third party camera apps allow slower shutter speeds, of say 15-30s, without requiring a drop in the resolution?

Note: Third party camera apps on Xperia Z3 can lower shutter speeds but require the resolution to decrease to around 5 MP to 1.3 MP for slower speeds.

Unfortunately manual camera in XZ Premium is quite limited. On stock camera shutter speed can only go up to 1s, and you can't set ISO simultanousely. That means you can't force camera to take a picture with shutter speed 1s and ISO 50, you can either set shutter speed or ISO...

3rd party apps are also limited, shutter speed can only go up to 1/10s. I don't really know why Sony is so keen on limiting things so simple and available even on budget Android phones...

Hi @Nav7, apologies for the late reply.

I'm glad to hear that you're interested in the Xperia XZ Premium! In the Camera app the shutter speed can be set from 1 second up to 1/4000.

I'm afraid I don't know about third party apps settings but maybe other users know more about that now that the device is available. Slightly_smiling_Face

In spot metering extreme, with shutter set to auto, it can do up to 1/50,000

Quite some range.

Thank you. That was all I wanted to know. I waited for the XZ Premium till May but ended up buying an LG G6 because I got it for with a 'buy one as get one free' offer with another friend. So my new phone costs me $275 and isn't too bad either (specially for the cost). Also, there is no silly shutter speed limitation on LG G6. I wish Sony improved some little things like this and I hope, Sony announces and releases a good phone the next time I am in the market in a reasonable time.

Thank you for your help.

After pointing it at a bright light and setting the ISO to 3200 I managed to get a 1/64,000s shutter speed from my XZ1. Astonishing
