Hi, the XZs my brother has bought recently seems to be experiencing overheating issues when using the camera app. When I record a 4k video, I'm sometimes only able to get 5 minutes worth of recording before camera shuts down (max I got was 15 minutes recording). Worse is 2 minutes.
After camera shut down, the UI lags for a few minutes. The temperature of the phone, measured with the app "Cooling Master-Phone Cooler", usually idles at 42 Celcius and the max I got after 4k recording is 47 Celcius. The phone has very few apps running in the background as it's a new phone. Is this too high?
Hi @brighter7,
When you're using a high intensity app like recording 4K video, the phone will get hot as the CPU is working harder. You will likely notice a similar thing when playing a graphically intense game. This is normal. The device has built in safety mechinisms to prevent it from overheating. If the phone gets close to being too hot it will shut itself down before causing any damage to the phone.
Thanks for the reply. Is the operating temperature within normal limits?
Yup, the "lag" you notice is the cores running slower to cool down, this prevents the system overheating.
same issue, but is it a normal behavior ?
because, in my opinion it shoud be possible to bringt this device/the proc. to max. without any impact.
What benefit brings me an actual processor generation with xxx Mhz when i´m not able to bring him to the max. without an impact?
The device should cools the proc. even when he run at maximum!
(especially when the surrounding themperature are not as hot )
Yes, it's normal behaviour for a modern smart phone. Keep in mind that there's no fans or water cooling to cool the CPU. It relies purely on a heat sink to dispurse the heat. If you remove the fan from your PC's CPU you will notice similar behaviour.
the same issue....
i find the CPU capacity is too small, when this phone is under the normal using condition, it almost get 64% of CPU capacity and become overheated at the same time. Is there any solution? Or maybe I should not bought this phone...? (sad)
I realise this is a bit of an old thread.....
But how is it an iPhone can film in 4K without overheating?
How is it a Samsung S8 can film in 4K without overheating?
Yet when it comes to sony, it's "normal" ?

WHAT? YOUR 50,000 RUPEES WORTH OF A PHONE ONLY MAKES 3-4MINUTES OF VIDEO? I AM GOING TO CANCEL MY ORDER. AND THIS SUPPORT GUY HAD NO SHAME IN SAYING IT IS NORMAL FOR THE PHONE TO OVERHEAT IN JUST 3-4 MINUTES AND CRASH..... Even my existing Samsung S6 edge+ shoots 4k almost unlimited till memory ends out. And i did not hav to think of overheating while gaming also
This is quite an old thread, and as I remember this has been improved with successive software updates. The original poster had multiple apps running in the background also.
