Where did the running tasks button go?

I assume this is related to upgrading to PIE, but I no longer have a running tasks or home button.  I assume this is because they've been replaced by gestures, but I also don't have a Gestures setting.  How do I access running tasks or home?  How do I configure the gestures?

Interesting.  Seems like some update from Google Play was the cause, and rebooting was the fix.

That sounds very weird and gesture navigation is only available in the 2019 models (Xperia 1, Xperia 10, Xperia 10 Plus) so it must have been some strange hiccup.
