It only allowed us to search applications. Samsung S8 can search apps and the phone for useful data. Why doesn't this advance phone have it?

could you elaborate a bit more?
In the apps page, you can search for applications only. For Samsung, you are able to search for apps and phone details like your notes, contact, and app embedded details.
you could use Google Assistant for some of that, but do send your feedback to Sony >>> Local support
