It turns out the dealer sold me D6502, which does not have LTE according to the white paper. LTE will roll out in a short while in my town. Any way, the phone can be upgraded to handle LTE? Or is there a hardware requirement?

There is more to it than that such as the RF Antenna etc.

Hardware requirement to be able to handle the 4G/LTE frequency
I did answer
Thommo..Thanks. Looks like they all use different processor variants with different modems. Extremely dissappointed!!
At this price, D6502 should not be on sale here at all. Went to at least 4 showrooms. LTE capability (or lack of it) and the fact that there are variants of z2 are not highlighted. On another note, are there any 'dongle' solutions to make z2 LTE capable?
editing: Please see post below. The processor in my D6502 is one with LTE modems
We need to look at this further.
My phone settings say it uses the processor Qualcom MSM8974PRO-AB.
According to the qualcom website ( https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/comparison ) the snapdragon 800 series does incude modems compatible with LTE supporting upto 150 Mbps and RF360 transciever. ( According another post http://www.xperiablog.net/2014/02/27/confirmed-xperia-z2-runs-the-snapdragon-801-msm8974-ab-chipset/... says the pro version is snapdragon 801 which has modem capable of 300 Mbps. In either case, hardware should be compatible with LTE (150 Mbps) ? Shouldn't a software upgrade be able to make it LTE compatible?
