Hi all, only my second day with the Z and I seem to be having a bit of an issue that I hope someone might ha experience with.
When I go on Google now or to create a voice note the app straight away fails. On google now the noise sounds and a message displays instantly to say it could capture my voice. And o voice notes as soon as I click record it changed straight back and message is displayed saying unable to capture audio: "Could not record".
If I reboot my phone both apps are able to use the mic okay but later when I come back to either app they go back to not being able to use the mic.
Any ideas? Should I take my phone back?

I actually found the solution myself.
The issue was being caused by the latest version of Google Now. It locks the microphone so no other applications can use it! (including it'self if you close the application and go back in it).
To resolve the issue I went into play store and uninstalled Google Search/Google Now which reverted it back to the standard version which works fine.
I found the answer because I installed a random voice changer application which was free to see if that could use the mic and when it couldn't it gave me a nice explaintion as to why! Neither Google now or the voice recorder gave me an error, they just malfunctioned.
Begin by checking for updates for the app on Google play store. Open play store and go to your app's and check if there are any updates available. If not I suggest that you check if this problem remains after reinstalling the software using SUS.

strangely I have found the same problem on the Xperia S after upgrading to Jelly Bean. I've tried a number of tests, Voice recorder works fine initially, I can use the Google voice search on its own and it works without issue. I then open the Gogle app (with Google Now configured) and click the mic icon in there. It sometimes works once or twice but then starts immediately saying it didn't catch what was said. Once this happens Google voice stops working in standalone and voice recorder says the microphone is being used by another app. I have tried different orders of applications and after Google Now tries to do a voice seach the mic is locked and the only way out is full power down of the phone. Fortunately this doesn't seem to stop the mic being used in a phone call!
annoying isn't it! I uninstallled google now/search and it was alright then.
Particularly as for the Xperia s one of the reasons they say you should upgrade to jelly bean is to use Google now..... but I can't. Nice!
its a built in app cannot be uninstallled
