Z5 Camera Update - Not Working

I've just updated the camera application on my Z5, and now the rear facing camera doesn't work. It doesn't work in the camera application itself, it doesn't work with snapchat, it doesn't work with Facebook, it doesn't work with anything. Although the front facing camera does still work.

When I open the camera application, or snapchat, it's just a pitch black screen. You can see the "heads up display" in the application but it doesn't show what it should see through the lens.

I don't know why it's like this, and I expect Sony to fix it quickly with a new update.

Have you tried to perform a software repair using PC Companion as suggested earlier?

I purchased the phone end of january and now the front camera is not working, just over month brand new. I have tried a number of fixes I found online but none of them have resolved the issue. The front camera icon does not show, selecting AR mask or style portrait (which uses the front camera) returns an error message, camera not available or camera not available, flashlight or camera may be in use by another application. Close it and try again.

Fixes attempted;

Clearing camera cache
Powering on in safe mode
3rd party camera application (front camera icon does not show)
Factory reset

I would suggest that you try to perform a software repair using PC Companion as well but if that doesn't help I'm afraid it sounds like your phone is in need of service. You can contact your Local support team for information on where you can find an authorised service center and how to proceed from here.

Hi, I have the same issue. I tried all the above and issue atill exists, camera diagnostic gave me a messgae. Camera is not available. Any other ways to troubleshoot

@Adelahmed If the previous suggestions in this topic didn't help then you need to get your phone examined at an authorised service center. Your Local support team can help you proceed with this.

Guys,

My girlfriend has the same problem: Camera used by an other application...

I however don't have this problem. The only difference is she is allready using Android 6.0 and I'm still using 5.1.

I assume its the update to Android 6.0? 

And yes, where are both using a Xperia z5 Compact.

Ps: My girlfriend just switched from an iPhone 5 to this a few days ago, not a good start :smileyd_oh: Slightly_smiling_Face

I have the same problem as Randomrash, but the panorama function works. This confirm that its a software problem. Tried all fixes recommended above with no luck.

Just had this issue.... Had my new z5 for 4 days... Tried all the fixes as mentioned and nothing worked, took it into the dealer I bought it from and they are replacing it
