Sony BD-6700 menu is now blank

I fired up the Sony BD S6700 this morning and it boots up as normal but fails to display anything but the grey Sony background with no icons to choose. I powered down, booted up again and again but the same problem of a blank menu. Pulled out the ethernet cable and still blank when re-booted. The DVD player works fine when I put a disk in but again, a blank menu.

Please disconnect the player from power for some minutes and try again afterwards.

Hi, I have already done this many times with no change. There is no way of doing a factory reset because the settings are on the menu which now is blank.

Contacted Sony and they say they have never heard of this problem and I would have to pay for an engineer to fix it as it is just out of warranty. Suffice to say I will NOT be buying Sony again.
