I think that's the idea from Mirrorlink, to view phone's screen on your car's head unit. If you connect the phone via Bluetooth instead you'll be able to control phone from your car screen without mirroring the phone itself.

I have an Xperia z5 and recently bought a new car, it's New Peugeot 208. The car and the phone are mirrorlink certified, but when i plug the phone in the car's radio it connects and shows the mirrorlink apps in car screen, but when i open one, this is showed in phone screen instead of car screen.
I have Android 5.1.1 and 32.0.A.6.152.
Hi,
I'm not too sure if this will help abit, cause me myself i don't really use that feature.
But there is some info below related to compatibility and how can you check, hope this could answer why it won't work..

MirrorLink™ allows the car audio/video receiver to display (mirror) the screen on the smartphone and interact with apps installed on the phone.

Have you possibly tried a different cable? Or does it have one supplied in the car all ready? Can you see if you can detach it and use a different one? If it's not possible to change it, then maybe go to the Peugeot dealer and see if they can provide you assistance with getting this working. Maybe there is an update for the head unit or something that they may know that we don't.
