Touchscreen loosing touch issue

I got my Xperia Z1 Compact at the beginning of February and I am glad to have my old Xperia ray replaced by the fast and dressy Z1 Compact.

Unfortunately I am suffering from an issue that is well known by many Xperia Z1 and Z1s users. The touchscreen of the phone looses randomly the touch state which leads to bad words during Swype input and unintentional zooming and clicking during internet browsing.

It seems to me the issue appears totally at random and is not so distinct as it is seen on the two other phone models I mentioned above. The touch is lost occasional and more infrequent.

The facts I encountered so far:
- The issue is not restricted to the lower part of the screen but it occurs more often on the lower part where the keyboard is located in portrait mode.
- It doesn't matter weather I touch the aluminium frame or not.
- long touch strokes will end most of the time after about fifteen to thirty seconds
- short strokes loose touch directly after the beginning
- It doesn't matter weather the phone is hot or not.
- It doesn't matter weather there is heavy CPU load during touching
- The issue can be reproduced using the Xperia phone which is pre-installed on the Z1 Compact phone. You have to repeat the touchscreen test sometimes up to five times to see the error, sometimes it happens successively.

I wait for the upcoming firmware update .142, currently there is .114 installed. No other update is available yet here in Germany. If the issue exists after the update I will return the phone and take a look at other brands - sorry Sony!

Yesterday I was in the Sony support chat and asked the women whether they know about the issue and what Sony is planning to get rid of the problem. I knew the answer already before I asked the question: Sony is not aware of that touchscreen issue.

Hello everyone. I bought Z1 compact 3 weeks ago and also noticed problems with touchscreen, but a little different from what others describe. My issue is that sometimes, randomly, I unlock the phone and the screen is "playing on Its own". Dragging the upper bar, pressing wifi and sound. Blocking unblocking... It's annoying and it stops only after you lock,it and unlock it again... But sometimes even "unlocking" button doesn't react..
I am generally happy with the phone but these random actions "on its own" are SO FRUSTRATING. I never used Sony before and exchanged my old good HTC for this new Z1... I really don't wanna go and give it back. Anyone had the same? Thanks

Do you have a screen protector installed? How is it if you boot in safe mode?

The screen protector I guess is installed, as when I was buying it they mentioned that it goes.with factory screen protection. I've just.put it on safe mode and will monitor how it goes. Will let you know. Thanks, Alexdon

I have the same issue that is described in the original and subsequent posts. The keyboard loses touch occasionally while swiping, resulting in erroneous inputs. It is extremely frustrating. I wasn’t able to reproduce the issue in the Sketch app tests but the countless typos I have to correct throughout the day as a result of this problem are ample evidence for the fact that it exists.

I’ve sent an email to Sony India requesting a fix, but I don’t know what I’ll do even if they replace the phone, because it seems clear from your posts that the replacement unit will also exhibit the same problem. And because it’s been over a month since I bought this phone, I think I’m stuck with it now.

Combine this with the significant delay in the proximity sensor’s response when bring the phone away from your ear and the extremely terrible camera output in all but the brightest of settings, and I am deeply regretting having bought a Sony phone. I definitely will not be recommending it to anyone.

Hi, I have checked the phone in a safe mode and first day it seemed better, no issues and the second day it started doing the same- while it's locked and I wanted to unlock it, the screen was "twitching", "pressing" the option on an upper bar. Had to press power button, wait and unlock again. Then it works. Therefore,it's not about the third party apps. I've noticed one thing though: it never twitches when in use. It starts only when it was lying, locked and I take it to use, unlocking. But I can't figure out the logic of twitching. It's just random. So disappointing....

Did you also try a software repair? If yes and did not help, you should visit a sony service.

Hi alexdon, sorry for asking, but software repair- does it mean to reboot to factory settings or to update to 4.4?.. Sorry for late reply..
I am trying to find the logic and length of these "twitching" of screen but the only thing I've noticed is it comes and goes by itself. I don't need to lock it, just watching it and then after a minute or so it stops... I am not sure if Sony service center here in dubai can help me but I definitely don't wanna give this phone back...
Thanks!

A software repair means you reinstall latest software, also followed by a factory reset done with the same app.
