Update to Andoid 9 some time ago, frustrated a lot and now for the 2nd time the video camera crashed. The only workaround: full power cycle. This never happened with any of my old phones or when I still had Android 8 on that phone.
The original pre-installed Kamera app is 2.2.1.A.0.10
Ok here is the story: one day with lots of workshops each hour and at the end of the workshop you film what has been done by the teacher. Worked three times and after the fourth hour, I open the camera app - and I see the on the screen that the photocamera is working. Wanted as usual to change from "photo" to "video" by moving the finger from right to left and bäääääm, screen stayed black with menus/icons (like "modus", red recording button,...) still visible but not reacting anymore. At times a message appeared like "camera is in use by a different app" (I can't remember the exact wording). Switching back to "photo" with a left to right fingermove was possible, but now "photo" stayed black as well just the menus/icons visible. Can't remember if the message with Kamera being blocked by another app appeared too. Closing and re-opening the app was not helping. A full power cycle was successful. Of course: all what has been shown after my workshop was already finished when I had my videocamera back... and I had to ask others about their vids via WiFi/whatsapp/Bluetooth.
6 apps are conencted and allowed to use the camera on my phone (Carrier Services, Firefox, Kamera itself, Messages, and Phone).
This happened now the 2nd time also out of the blue, so for sure there is a mistake somewhere...... I should have stayed faar far away from that last Android upgrade, and I continously shook my head that I have bought a 600@ Sony-phone for the sole reason as being a former Sony-Ericsson employee who wanted to stick to his former favourite brand and help the underdog against Apple and Samsung. Cursing myself really...
