It's my 1st Xperia and I just got this Z1 yesterday, but what a disappointment! This phone gets too hot in 15 min just browsing, downloading apps. Is this normal? Regrets to pick Z1 instead of upgrade to iPhone 5s! 😞 How to fix this overheating problem? The shop won't give my money back!

Exactly same problem here. I got the phone, charged it and used it only with the factory installed software. After browsing for 1/2 hour, the phone was seriously hot and the battery had lost 30% charge.
I did recharge it and installed battery monitor pro.
It showed temperatures up to 44 degrees while surfing the internet! So hot, that you can't really hold onto the phone.
Also while making phone calls, it reached 36 degrees.
And I had to end the call before my ear boiled off.
I tried to switch of both wifi and mobile network and used the camera app and some games.with these settings, temperature was no issue (<30 degrees).
We live in a 4 bar 4g area of Sydney and my wife has the Samsung s4 active, and uses it in the same area with.both wifi and mobile network without them temperature issues, so I guess it is related to the radio circuit in the Sony phone...hopefully only a firmware issue 😞
It gets really hot in the upper half of the phone, but the heat distributes throughout the glass surface, so it would actually be possible to fry an egg on the phone while surfing the.net

I have some concerns about my Z1.preordered through EE, latest firmware.

It suffers from overheating (though a message to say that the phone is overheating has never been displayed) during use and the battery drains quickly.
The phone also turns itself off/restarts intermittently.
There's little point trying to even use it plugged in, it gets hot and I get a message that the charger can't keep up with the phone! I've never seen that on any Android phone before.

The advice here is to contact support, so I did. They want me to send it to a repair centre, with a possible 7 day turnaround, probable complete wipe of data I should think, ambiguous language regarding warranty and possible costs of repair and no mention of what the 'fault' may be.
Does anyone actually know for sure if this is all software related or if the first batch has a hardware issue?
I'm not keen on sending it off through the Royal Mail, and it seems a little shrouded. People are obviously having issues, why not just acknowledge it?

Also, in the time it took to write the above post using the phone. Better Battery Stats shows the temp raised to 38.6C from 29.
Screen set to auto adjust.
Streaming A2DP from Walkman, offline mode.
Mobile Data on, 2-3 bars 4G.

Mine is perfectly fine. It gets warm like any other phones when I play 3d games, but never overheat or gets too hot.

Mine hit a record 52,5 celsius after using navigon gps (offline) and playing audiobook 15 mins. I also got the strange message about the charger not providing enough power (it is rated output 2 amps and it is enough for all other usb devices I have).
It might be a version 1.0 software and/or hardware problem.
What disappoints me,is that Sony support do not comment on the problems either on this forum or when sending mails to them. Do they not know what is the problem with the device or don't they want to tell the people who have spent their money on a Sony product?
Or maybe it is an intentional "feature" - if this is the case, Sony should use it in their marketing : "the first Android phone with built in coffee heater...since it's also waterproof, you simply put it in a cup of cold instant coffee and turn on the internet.after 15 mins you've got 50 degrees hot coffee"
