Hotspot / Tether data usage has disappeared

I am on the Three network in the UK and am running the latest software for my Z3C - Android 6.0.1 Build 23.5.A.1.291

It appears that since this latest update I can no longer see my 'Hotspot / Tether data usage' in Settings\Data Usage

Has anyone else noticed this and might anyone know a fix?

many thanks,

litfoo

Hi @litfoo,

As far as I know this should still be displayed. Are you referring to the list under Settings > Data usage or did you previously have a separate tab for Hotspot / Tethering?

Hi Didrik,

Yes, under Settings > Data usage and below  the graph, apps are listed showing how much data each app has consumed, in the date range specified further up on the same page.

in that list, i would also see the 'Tether/Hotspot' usage for the specified time period

this has disppeared

@litfoo, Have you used the tethering function since you updated your phone? Or is it just data from before the update that is no longer showed?

If you enable the hotspot and share your mobile data right now > Connect a device and download about 10 MB (or more) of data, does that show up under your data usage?

Hi Didrik,

Yes - that's the problem - i use the tether function every day

have just tried again - watched a Youtube video on a tethered iPad

not showing up under data usage unfortunately

I see. Do you know of any of the apps listed under Data usage show that they've used more data? Or if you check the overall data usage, does that show increased usage when tethering?

hi Didrik,

Nothing really over noticeable to be honest

It appears normal for the other apps - just not showing the hotspot/tether data

In that case I'd suggest you perform a software repair using Xperia Companion. Since this will reset your phone make sure that you create a backup using Xperia Companion first.

After the software is completed, download your internet settings again and share hotspot from your phone. I'd recommend that you try this before you restore any backup or re-download any apps.

hi Didrik,

I don't want to reset my phone with no strong indication at all that this will fix my issue

Pardon my late reply.

I understand that you do not want to reset your phone. I have however tested this in an updated Xperia Z3 Compact. With the hotspot enabled and using another device I downloaded about 82MB of data, which is shown under the Data usage and the general data usage was increased. If this does not increase in your phone when you have the hotspot enabled and another device uses data I strongly recommend you perform the software repair.
