Z5 Microphone Problem

Hey guys, I recently just purchased the Z5 on Black Friday and starting last night I've been experiencing a problem related to my microphone in that it isn't working. No one can hear me during calls or when you record videos.

I checked to see if there was microphone suppression settings but unfortunately there isn't any.

I want to see if I can fix it first before taking it in just because my old phone broke on Halloween and I went an entire month without a phone up until j got this one and so I'm trying to avoid letting it go.

Thanks in advance.

This issue has started occuring to me as well recently. The diagnostics microphone test does not even work, nothing is picked up whatsoever. Only a phone restart solves the issue..

I've got the same problem. The mic stops working whenever I seem to receive a call through whatsapp or messenger, and it usually doesn't work after opening Netflix or Google play movies. Suspect the phone software doesn't re-initialise the main mic and therefore mics are turned off. A restart always fixes the issue but it's so annoying! Been happening since I bought the phone in Feb 2016

I did a factory reset and it worked fine until I plugged headphones in. Eventhough I removed the headphones the microphone is in only picking up my voice if if keep the Xperia super close to my mouth when talking. Even 1 cm away will cause it to not pick up audio.

Sir,

I am having sony z5 premium, First i had audio jack problem in my phone, i gave it to service centre and they took 22 days to change the phone . they gave me new phone i suppose. But now there is this basic problem of microphone. No one can hear me properly, i have to say 5-6 times , move phone and here and there so someone can hear me. i have tried everything, from forum on sony, from some other tech forums.

I hope you can solve this problem. Looking forward to your support.

thanks

I got exactly the same problem! This problem started a couple of weeks ago. The weird thing is that the problem occurs about 30 seconds into the call and sometimes fixes itself when i blow into the microphone..

Thing's I've tried:

  • Making calls with various call apps - failed
  • Testing microphone in diagnostics - no problem here(?!)
  • Starting phone in safe mode and testing mic - failed
  • Speakerphone - works without any problem
  • Disabling Google Now - failed
  • Hard Reset - failed

Sony Tech couldn't fix it because they say there's nothing wrong with the phone. But they can hardly expect me to blow into the microphone every few minutes just to have a conversation over the telephone. Pls fix this!!

Very same exact. problem here with an Xperia Z5.

It can't be debris on the mic if safe mode or handset. free. works!! I experienced this upon upgrading to latest Android so. must be soft related!!!

Be careful during the conversation not to touch or block the microphone hole which is situated next to the usb port. I've found when I'm holding my phone with my left hand, I accidentally block it with my finger so I can't be heard from the other side. So either hold it with your right hand or make sure you don't cover the hole. Slightly_smiling_Face

I can run the test mentioned on the first page fine in regular and and safe mode.

People cannot hear me when making calls in normal mode or safe mode.

I have never plugged in headphones to the phone ever.

I have not installed anything of my own choice since I first got the phone a few months ago.  The only thing I get now are automatic updates.

I have restared phone and done a factory reset still to avail.  Tests run fine in safe mode and normal mode.

I have removed the case even though the mic hole is not covered.  No noticable difference in the tests with case on or off.

What else can I do?
