My wife went to visit our daughter and her husband and they have just bought a new TV and have also got a new soundbar fitted.
Now having a soundbar in action she would like one.Our TV is a Sony KDL-42W653A and I would like to know if I can fit a soundbar to it and if so how do I do it any help appreciated.
you can buy a sony soundbar which mounts on a wall just below the tv or can be rested below the tv if its on a stand all you do is plug in an Optical cable into the Optical out of your tv into the soundbar.
the sony HT-SF150 will work perfectly fine with your tv, you may need to purchase the digital optical cable seperatly if you want more than 2 channel sound then the soundbars can get very expensive upwards of £500+.
I just want a basic type of one maybe about £100 but not much more it is just to keep the wife happy.Would I have to buy any of the connecting leads you mentioned or do any come with the unit.

Hi @muffin1947. At less than £100 the HT-SF150 should be idea for you. You need to buy a HDMI lead which you connect to your TV HDMI ARC socket. Don’t pay more than £5 for one. The shop will try to sell you one at a ridiculous price. Example https://tinyurl.com/y7zoama6
I have quite a few HDMI leads of different lengths the two HDMI ports on the TV are in use one has a HDMI hub connected to it but the other only has the one HDMI lead plugged into it.Could I plug a HDMI hub into that port and use that to connect the sound bar.I have spare HDMI hub.
I forgot to ask what is the Arc Socket

Hi @muffin1947.
ARC = Audio Return Channel which according to your TV manual is HDMI In 1. By using ARC you can use your TV remote to control the Soundbar and TV as one. They will also turn off and on as one. If you are really struggling for HDMI ports then you can connect the Soundbar using the included Optical cable. However i’m not sur how the Sync Menu works with Optical cable as I prefer full control through HDMI ARC.
If you use ARC then you should connect the Soundbar to HDMI 1 direct. You should not use a Hub as this will disrupt the communications between the TV and Soundbar.
So could fit the soundbar to the HDMI 1 port but as I have four other units to connect I would have to get a four way HDMI hub and plug that into the HDMI 2 port.Is that correct. What is the difference between the HDMI 1 Port and the HDMI 2 Port .Thanks for the help much appreciated.

Hi @muffin1947
That is a easy question to answer. Only HDMI 1 is available for ARC. HDMI 2 does not provide this function. You can connect all your equipment to either port but only use HDMI 1 for ARC.
I have just been looking at some 4 way HDMI Hubs and it looks like you can get a HDMI 1 Hub and a HDMI 2 Hub. but not sure what the difference is I do not know what type I have.Should I get a HDMI 2 Hub to plug my units into the HDMI 2 Port.
